Skunk—Our
Backyard—Waukesha,
Wisconsin
We saw this visitor scavenging near our squirrel feeders. At the same time, a raccoon came by and while both were quite aware of each other, they tolerated the situation and both fed. This shot was taken through a glass patio door. My 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens set at ISO 2000 and a patio spot light made this shot possible Canon EOS 7D, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 1/15 f/2.8 at 135mm iso-2000 October 18, 2011 10:12pm |

One of our cats alerted us that something was outside our patio doors one night, so we looked, and found this guy checking out our bird and squirrel feeders Canon EOS 40D, Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM 1/15s f/2.8 at 55mm iso-400 November 30, 2008 12:53am |

Fox—Dodge County, Iron Ridge, Wisconsin
On my way to Horicon Marsh, I saw this fox off Hwy 67 in Dodge County. It saw it go into a small creek, it came out wet and ran across this field. I whistled to get its attention, and then shot this frame Canon EOS 40D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/80s f/5.6 at 400mm iso-100 September 5, 2008 10:40am |
![]() Ground Hog—Waukesha, Wisconsin
We see ground hogs (a.k.a. wood chucks) around town, so this evening I decided it was time that I capture one of them on film (or in my case, on a compact-flash card) Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/100s f/5.6 at 400mm iso-100 June 22, 2008 7:40pm |
![]() Muskrat—Jefferson,
Wisconsin
A muskrat ( to the left of the den in the water) was mending its home. Back in the 1970's when I was shooting 35mm film, I was hiking in the late winter months on a marsh, stalking another muskrat, and I fell through the ice. I kept my camera dry, but I was a mess Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/400s f/6.3 at 400mm iso-200 May 2, 2008 3:27pm |
![]() Muskrat—Myrick Park—LaCrosse, Wisconsin
I believe this is also a muskrat. I had seen it playing out in the marsh, and then without warning it surfaced right in front of me (I was on the shore - this is not cropped much) Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/100s f/5.6 at 400mm iso-100 April 21, 2008 6:23pm |

& Western
Painted Turtle—Myrick
Park—LaCrosse, Wisconsin
I took a series of these shots. In each, the goose is standing on one foot (for the longest time) and it was hiding behind the clump of grass that was growing on that log - as if it were stalking the turtle. After a while, it rested its head (which is when I took this shot). Nice reflections! Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/400s f/7.1 at 310mm iso-100 April 21, 2008 6:18pm |

Before attending a conference in Vegas, a few of us hit the golf course. I had my camera with me to record our event, but who could resist shooting a few extra shots (with the camera). Look at the size of their back feet! Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM 1/320s f/6.3 at 55mm iso-100 April 6, 2008 3:36pm |
![]() Coyote—Moose-Wilson Road—Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming A coyote was running along the dirt road coming towards us. All we needed to do was stay quiet, focus, and shoot. It was a very bright morning and I was having a hard time with the speed and ISO settings Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/1000s f/11.0 400mm iso-1600 June 21, 2007 8:21am |
![]() Magnolia
Golf Course—Lake Buena
Vista, Florida
The day before a conference, a few of us played a round of golf at the Walt Disney World® Magnolia Golf Course, and though I didn't see any 'gators, I did find this Raccoon (who was wild, but still wanted our lunch) Nikon Coolpix 3200 1/76s f/4.9 at 17mm ISO-50 May 20, 2007 3:22pm |
![]() Northern Raccoon—Our Home—Waukesha, Wisconsin We caught this visitor at our bird and squirrel feeding stations one evening (the deer in the background is concrete).
