This Sandhill Crane was with another one in some wet lands, adjacent to a Waukesha County Park where I found them, on this Sunday afternoon

I found a number of Sandhill Cranes while driving around in the Kettle Moraine area of SE Wisconsin.  This one, with evergreens in the background, is one of my favorites from that day

This Sandhill Crane had been wading in a small pond (usually we see them out in fields, so this was unusual for me)

Lake Mills—Jefferson County, Wisconsin
I had just been visiting Faville Prairie State Natural Area, and was headed south towards Lake Mills when I saw a Turkey Vulture (see the Vultures page); I pulled off the road to shoot it, and then also found (heard, and then saw) this Sandhill Crane

Faville Prairie State Natural Area—Jefferson County, Wisconsin
Faville Prairie, by the Crawfish River, is one of the largest low prairie remnants in Wisconsin (according to the Wisconsin DNR's web site).  I was the only one there on this day and found a sign saying that access to the property should be obtained from the University of Wisconsin.  I looked around without entering the property, and found many nesting Swallows, and then these 2 Sandhill Cranes came by

While shooting this pair of Sandhill Cranes, parked on the side of the road, a Sheriff pulled up next to me and asked if I was ok.  I pointed to the Cranes and said that I was fine!

The sun was setting behind me as these 3 Sandhill Cranes flew over.  I got a whole series of  pictures as they passed, and I like this one the best with its lighting and clarity

I was at the office later than normal, but as I was coming home (fortunately with my camera in the car) I came to this corn-field and found a pair (male and female) of Sandhill Cranes and two wild Turkeys too

The Sandhill Cranes were mostly wading in a puddle that was left over from all the rain we had been getting, but from time to time, they would stretch and display a bit too
