Lake Mills—Jefferson County, Wisconsin
I had just been visiting Faville Prairie State Natural Area, and was headed south towards Lake Mills when I saw a Turkey Vulture (see the Vultures page); I pulled off the road to shoot it, and then also found (heard, and then saw) this Sandhill Crane

Faville Prairie State Natural Area—Jefferson County, Wisconsin
Faville Prairie, by the Crawfish River, is one of the largest low prairie remnants in Wisconsin (according to the Wisconsin DNR's web site).  I was the only one there on this day and found a sign saying that access to the property should be obtained from the University of Wisconsin.  I looked around without entering the property, and found many nesting Swallows, and then these 2 Sandhill Cranes came by

While shooting this pair of Sandhill Cranes, parked on the side of the road, a Sheriff pulled up next to me and asked if I was ok.  I pointed to the Cranes and said that I was fine!
