Black Bear—Mammoth
Hot Springs—Yellowstone
National Park, Wyoming
We investigated most of the hot springs and geysers while vacationing in Yellowstone. But this bear was an unexpected surprise that we found on the backside of Mammoth Hot Springs (he and another black bear were just looking around) Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/320s f/5.6 at 400mm iso-100 June 23, 2007 10:36am |
Grizzly Bear—Yellowstone
National
Park, Wyoming
This was the first of many bears we saw in Yellowstone, but she and her two cubs (not visible in this shot) were the only grizzlies (the rest were black bears). We saw her from the road, but I walked into the woods to get this shot as the angle was a lot better Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/1250s f/11.0 at 400mm iso-1600 June 20, 2007 11:58am |
![]() Grizzly Bear—Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming This is the same grizzly as above, just a few minutes later. Nothing between her and me but the 400mm lens (this is not cropped) Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/500s f8.0 at 400mm iso-400 June 20, 2007 12:00pm |
![]() Sea Lion—Pier 39—San Francisco, California Taken one evening after a day at a business conference. If you've been to Pier 39, then you don't need more of an explanation. These wild sea lions have taken up home on some floating docks (K-Dock) right next to Pier 39. This all began in 1989/1990 (speculation is that they began coming here after an earthquake happened on October 17, 1989) Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 1/200s f/5.6 at 400mm iso-500 April 25, 2007 7:16pm |
