Wildlife and Nature Photography

Adopt the pace of nature, her secret is patience
- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Poet (1803-1882)
I've always enjoyed squirrels and we feed them year-round. Gray squirrels are numerous in my home town and
occasionally we see an Albino (we currently have one in our yard). We also see R
ed squirrels from time to time,
and
in some cities, we have Black squirrels too

Our Tulip Tree, Wisconsin
While we don't usually see Tulip Trees in Wisconsin, we have one that was planted over 30 years ago, and it's still doing OK.  Here's a Grey Squirrel in our tree

Back in 2008 I was in Zion and took a picture of a gray squirrel (below), so it was fitting to find other one on this visit to the park

Gray Squirrel ... in our feeder?  We have a raccoon that comes around and messes things up a bit, so the squirrels take advantage of those situations

Knoch Knolls Park—Naperville, Illinois
Our High School Marching Band performed in Naperville; I was a chaperon and equipment truck driver for the event.  Before heading home, we stopped at this park for some R&R and an impromptu performance.  I found this squirrel there, wondering what all was happening

I visited Old Town Alexandria while attending a conference which was across the Potomac River at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  There are a number of parks along the river which is where I found this guy

Zion National Park, Utah
I took the shuttle ride into Zion's canyon and then hiked the trail to the Zion Narrows.  I was not there long enough to do any serious hiking, which would have been really hard as it was 106°F on this day.  At the start of the trail to the Narrows, this guy was munching on grass

Our Home—Waukesha, Wisconsin
Another squirrel subject, this time right after I received my 1.4x tele-converter.  This was in my backyard, hand held, manually focused, and maybe only 15 feet away about 5 feet off the ground (he surprised me as much as I surprised him)

Our Home—Waukesha, Wisconsin
I feed squirrels year-round and this guy was one of my first subjects when my 100-400mm arrived.  He was sunning on the neighbor's deck when I shot this (he must have been wondering what I was doing when I aimed the lens at him)
