Wildlife and Nature Photography

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks
- John Muir, Environmentalist (1834-1914)
I love wildlife and enjoy the times I have to look for them,
and occasionally to also catch them with my cameras

Deer, Elk, Moose, etc

I spotted these Mule Deer at Zion National Park, after spending most of the day in Bryce Canyon National Park, on my way back to Las Vegas for a convention that next week

It had been snowing and windy and cold (22-29°F) and I had not seen much wildlife, when I finally found this Prong Horn Antelope and I was pretty close too!

This is one of about two dozen deer that I saw and caught with my cameras today in this large Milwaukee County Park System location.  This is not cropped.  I love the scene as it is!

This and four other deer were looking for food under the snow, just behind the tree line in the background.  A few of them ventured out into this field where I was able to see them better

Trimborn Farm—Greendale, Wisconsin
Three deer crossed right in front of me; here's one of them. This was shot from my car, out the passenger window after she crossed.  Then they took off into the woods near Trimborn Farm, part of the Milwaukee County Park System

Kettle Moraine State Forest—Lapham Peak Unit, Wisconsin
After walking down a quiet trail, I turned around and started back, and this White-Tailed Fawn and its mother jumped up from their resting place (less than 10 feet off my path).  They moved away from me so I whistled and when the fawn turned to see what the noise was, I shot this.  The Doe is in the background

White-Tailed Deer—Western Lakes Golf Course—Pewaukee, Wisconsin
This was one of the last shots I look during a one hour evening drive to the west of Waukesha (it was off a frontage road near a golf course with a few other deer).  I found many deer, some hawks, a sand hill crane, some turkeys and other small birds in a span of about an hour!

Bull Elk—Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
We found a field of large elk grazing, they weren't too far away, and weren't too spooked of us, so this was a lot of fun to watch and shoot pictures of them

Elk—Moran Entrance Station—Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
We found lots of elk in the Tetons, but it was the time of year that they were a bit spooked of us and/or shy.  So in many shots, like this one, they are watching us as carefully as we were watching them

Yes, there are moose along the Moose-Wilson Road.  This one was feeding, and then later she brought her calf down to the water too.  Our whole family really enjoyed watching them
